Belcanto is a female voice choir which was formed on the initiative of Alison Wise, who had previously sung in a number of choirs directed by Barry Clark. Together with pianist, Judy Tomlinson, they started with 12 members in 2008, since when the choir has grown to its present number of 30 singers.
The choir rehearses once a week at Alison’s house, singing a wide range of music covering all styles and periods, including classical and contemporary works, gospel and musicals, both accompanied and unaccompanied. The members love singing and aim to bring joy to all those who come to their concerts, always striving to uphold the tradition of Bel Canto (Italian for ‘beautiful singing’).
Belcanto give regular concerts and have raised funds for a number of charities and churches in the Kettering district. Further afield, they have been successful in the 2010 Choir of the Year competition, and were prizewinners at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in 2010 and 2011.
